Surehaven Pembroke Hospital is registered with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales as an Independent Low Secure Hospital, and provides high quality care, treatment and structured rehabilitation for sixteen patients aged 18 to 65 with a primary diagnosis of mental health illness, some of whom are liable to be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983. This state of the art building provides a positive experience for patients in two gender specific wards with the aim of providing care and treatment in order to improve the patient’s functioning and reduce the likelihood of relapse through providing highly structured individual care packages employing appropriate and evaluated models of care such as the recovery focussed model.
The hospital is a 16 bed unit split into 2 gender specific wards with 8 ensuite rooms in each ward. It is superbly designed to maximize communal and living space for the patients as well as providing activity rooms for the facilitation of therapeutic programmes. Each ward has its own community lounge, dining room and quiet room as well as access to its own secure garden. Designated external smoking areas are provided. The hospital is within walking distance of the centre of Pembroke Dock and is also on the bus route making it easy to accommodate visitors and authorised leave for patients within the local community. For visitors there is a visitor’s room, a separate visitor’s garden and a specific area set aside for children’s visits. Safety and security is paramount within this envioronment and the building specification has been designed to meet the requirements of the National Minimum Standards for Low Secure Hospitals while retaining a more homely style of environment.
