Surehaven team attend PCL-R Training facilitated by world renowned Professor Robert Hare

Surehaven staff recently attended a 3 day training workshop in Haverfordwest.  The workshop was facilitated by Professor Robert Hare, author of the Psychopathy Check List (PCL-R), and one of the world’s foremost authorities on psychopathy and Professor Nicola Gray a consultant clinical and forensic psychologist, who has published extensively on psychopathy and risk assessment, and is director of the Wales Applied Risk Research Network (WARRN).

Surehaven exhibited on the middle day and the Managing Director Tim Savage hosted an evening BBQ on the last night for all attendees.  Despite the best efforts of the weather to ruin the event, the BBQ went off well with the chefs producing superb food under a few well placed umbrellas!

PCL-R is widely accepted as the most reliable and valid method for assessing psychopathy and is rapidly being adopted worldwide for basic and applied research including neuro-imaging, and as a key instrument in forensic psychology and psychiatry.  The PCL-R and the more recent screening version, the PCL:SV, are strong predictors of recidivism, violence and the inability to respond to therapeutic intervention.  Both the PCL-R and PCL:SV are routinely used to assess risk in a variety of forensic populations, to aid sentencing decisions, treatment suitability and institutional placements.

Surehaven is committed to ensuring that all its staff receive the appropriate training and those who attended the workshop will be attending futher workshops run by WARRN in the near future.
